About Us

Since 1994, Nā Leo o Hawaiʻi has proudly managed Hawai‘i Island’s sole Public, Educational, and Governmental (PEG) access television station, Nā Leo TV. Our nonprofit is dedicated to empowering residents to share their stories from their unique perspectives, equipping them with the essential tools and resources in the ever-evolving media landscape.

Broadcasting on Spectrum Cable Channels 53, 54, and 55, as well as through naleo.tv and our mobile app, Nā Leo TV consistently delivers relevant and engaging programs that cater to a diverse range of community interests.

Funded by the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs through cable franchise fees paid by local subscribers, PEG TV serves as a robust platform for residents to exercise their constitutional right to free speech. We invite residents to become certified Community Creators, utilizing Nā Leo’s state-of-the-art equipment, studios, and edit bays in our Hilo and Kona facilities to record and edit programming. Any resident can submit a program for airing on our Public Channel 53, provided they adhere to specific guidelines.

Beyond providing a platform for diverse voices, Nā Leo airs comprehensive, gavel-to-gavel coverage of local government meetings, including sessions of the Hawai‘i County Council, State Legislature, and Mayoral Town Halls. We bring our community together by broadcasting special events like high school sports, graduation ceremonies, may day programs, candidate forums, and more. Our commitment extends to producing a variety of programs that showcase every facet of Hawai‘i Island – its people, places, culture, and significant moments in time.

Nā Leo o Hawai‘i remains resolute in embodying “the voices of Hawai‘i,” fostering a space where our community is celebrated and heard.
